Forest School at Airfield Estate

We’re excited to bring you a 6 week hands-on course kicking off in September where your little one can learn Forest School techniques with two fantastic practitioners Fiona and Rebecca. Throughout the 6 weeks, they will guide the lucky forest schoolers through activities such as shelter building, learning knots to make cool things with ropes, using tools to make wooden crafts, foraging, flora and fauna identification, forest art and games!

Forest school is a process which allows children to develop their own confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning in natural environments such as the woodlands at Airfield Estate.

The course will follow the ethos and principals of Forest School learning through this practical course where children will build upon their skills week on week while immersed in nature.

It’s possible to book a session of 3 weeks however, we recommend that a child would attend all 6 sessions to develop the skills necessary for the more advanced activities and gain the maximum benefit from this course.

Dates: 16th , 23rd, 30th September and  7th , 14th, 21st October.

Cost:  €52.00 for 3 classes /€95.00 for all 6 classes.

Age Range: 8-12 year olds.

Time: 10 am – 12 pm

  • It is advisable that children wear long trousers and long sleeves when out in natural areas, due to natural hazards such as stinging nettles, brambles,
  • Wear footwear which fully covers feet – no sandals
  • Waterproof footwear is best. Wellies are very waterproof but not warm and hard to run and climb in. We advise a change of warm, thick socks!
  • Waterproof trousers to let children kneel in the forest without getting wet.
  • Layers of warm clothes with a waterproof jacket.
  • Gloves, hat, scarf etc. (be prepared for anything)!
  • And finally – be prepared to have fun, and bring your own sprinkling of songs stories and laughter!
