Forest School at Airfield Estate

Our new forest school class will be taking place each month in 2019 and our lucky forest schoolers will be learning through activities such as shelter building, learning knots to make cool things with ropes, using tools to make wooden crafts, foraging, flora and fauna identification, forest art and games plus much more!

Forest school is a process which allows children to develop their own confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning in natural environments such as the woodlands at Airfield Estate.

The course will follow the ethos and principals of Forest School learning through this practical course where children will build upon their skills month on month while immersed in nature.

  • It is advisable that children wear long trousers and long sleeves when out in natural areas, due to natural hazards such as stinging nettles, brambles,
  • Wear footwear which fully covers feet – no sandals
  • Waterproof footwear is best. Wellies are very waterproof but not warm and hard to run and climb in. We advise a change of warm, thick socks!
  • Waterproof trousers to let children kneel in the forest without getting wet.
  • Layers of warm clothes with a waterproof jacket.
  • Gloves, hat, scarf etc. (be prepared for anything)!
  • And finally – be prepared to have fun, and bring your own sprinkling of songs stories and laughter!
