Teen Beekeeping Workshop | Sunday 4th June | 10am - 12.30pm
An introductory course for teens who would like to learn about and experience what happens inside the beehives.
Join local beekeeper Brian O’Toole from Wildacres for a 2.5hr workshop, giving an introduction to the fascinating world of bees and beekeeping. Learn all about the lifecycle of the honeybee, getting started and managing a hive of bees through the different seasons, extracting your own honey and the different types of honey you can produce. The workshop will also give an introduction to our fascinating wild bees and other wild pollinators and the plants that they rely on for nectar and pollen.
As part of the workshop, you will get the opportunity to don a bee suit and see inside one of our beehives at the Airfield Apiary. This workshop will take place at Airfield Estate. We ask that for the visit to the apiary (beehives) those attending bring wellington boots or high boots which the bottom of the beesuits can be tucked into and fully covered.
Please bring a drink bottle to stay hydrated.
