Hand-printed Wallpaper

This wallpaper hung in Airfield House almost 200 years ago. The paper was hand printed by craftspeople in Dublin using carved wooden blocks. Early wallpaper designs are copied from embroidery, and a different wood block was used to print each colour. This process was called 'paper staining'.
