Our child-centred primary education programme provide a wonderful opportunity for active, hands-on learning in a unique and relaxed environment that celebrates food, farming and the natural world.
Our primary school programme is linked closely to the Primary Curriculum as well as Áistear, and are also Discovery Primary Maths and Science Programmes that can help you and your school work towards your next Green flag. Developed by educational professionals with years of experience, our workshops aim to encourage active learning in children through the hands-on investigation of the world around them.
Each visit is tailored to you and your classes needs and endeavours to be an exciting and rich learning experience for all. For example, our food-focused education programme launched in 2019 will use the estate’s working farm as the backdrop to help students understand the story of milk from grass to glass, as well as the food that is produced by other animals on the farm.
The students will also experience the world of plants and learn about growing and seasonality and will discover how it gets onto our plates. Woven through these experiences, the biodiversity of Airfield will be explored through the hedgerows or beneath the surface of the pond to find out what lives there and how it contributes to the food cycle.
All of this AND the students will be involved in a number hands-on interactive activities that reflect what they are learning about at the time of the year you visit and what this tells us about food and where it comes from.
If you would like to visit Airfield Estate remotely, you can find all the details here.
