Meet the Bees Experience – Adult Workshop

Adult Workshop | 10am-12:30pm

Are you interested in learning more about bees, and what we can do to help them thrive? Join us for a walk and talk around Airfield Estate’s gardens, led by biodiversity expert and local beekeeper, Brian O’Toole from Wildacres. Afterwards, everyone will get suited and booted to meet Airfield Estate’s honeybees!

Learn about all our native bees, from our one species of Honeybee, to our other 100 wild species of Solitary and Bumblebees. Discover all about their fascinating lifecycles and the vital role they play in our fragile ecosystems.

Tea and coffee will be provided, we encourage you to bring your own reusable mug if you have one. We ask that for the visit to the apiary (beehives) those attending bring wellington boots or high boots which the bottom of the beesuits can be tucked into and fully covered.

This workshop is suitable for adults ages 18+.

About Brian O’Toole

Brian O’Toole is passionate about wildlife, and committed to inspire and help others to protect biodiversity. After 30 years working in sales and management in the construction industry, he turned his hobby as a beekeeper into a business, producing and selling Irish honey, and delivering talks and workshops on beekeeping with a native wildlife focus. Soon after, he went on the lookout for land in Co Wicklow, to develop into a sanctuary for native wildlife. In 2017 he co-founded Wildacres, a Nature Reserve, Honey Farm, and Biodiversity Education Experience in Wicklow, dedicated to Wildlife Conservation.
